Chinese Equity ETF Watch – Hong Kong-Domiciled Offshore See Estimated Net Outflows of USD 0.2 billion; Onshore Chinese Equity ETFs See Estimated Net Inflows of USD 0.1 billion; Major US-Domiciled ETFs See Estimated Net Inflows of USD 1.5 billion
- Hong Kong-domiciled ETFs in the China Equity Category saw estimated net outflows totalling USD 221 million in October. This was primarily driven by net outflows from the Global X China Electric Vehicle and Battery ETF (02845/09845) and the Hang Seng China Enterprises ETF (02828), estimated at USD 157 million and USD 58 million, respecitvely.
- Hong Kong-domiciled ETFs in the China Equity - A-Shares Category saw estimated net inflows of USD 143 million in October. Flows favoured the CSOP FTSE China A50 ETF (82822/02822) and the ChinaAMC CSI 300 ETF (83188 /03188) which recorded net inflows estimated at USD 58 million and USD 44 million, respectively.
- For the year through October, Hong Kong-domiciled ETFs in the China Equity Category have seen estimated outflows of USD 318 million while Hong Kong-domiciled ETFs in the China Equity – A-Shares Category have experienced estimated inflows of USD 84 million.
- In the U.S. in October, we estimated total net inflows of USD 0.2 billion to the iShares China Large-Cap ETF (FXI) and the iShares MSCI China ETF (MCHI). The KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB) saw estimated net inflows of USD 1.3 billion.
- For the year through October, the KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB) has seen estimated net inflows of USD 7.2 billion.
New Launches and Listings
China: 12 ETF New Listings; 2 Delisting
- Chinese ETF providers listed 6 new ETFs on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and 6 new ETFs on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in October. These included 8 thematic/sector ETFs and 4 ETFs tracking broad market indices.
- 1 bond ETF was delisted from the Shanghai Stock Exchange on 22 October and 1 thematic ETF was delisted from Shenzhen Stock Exchange on 21 October.
- Including the above listings and de-listings, the total number of ETFs in China stands at 583 (200 ETFs on the SZSE, 383 ETFs on the SSE).
Hong Kong: 3 ETF New Listings
- Hong Kong ETF providers listed 2 Chinese bond ETFs and an inverse product on gold futures on the Hong Kong Exchange.
- Including the above listings, the total number of ETFs in Hong Kong stands at 227 (145 ETFs and 82 multiple counters, including 27 leveraged/inverse products).
India: 3 ETF New Listings
- Indian ETF providers added 2 sector ETFs and 1 ETF tracking the Nifty 50 Index on the BSE. These 3 ETFs already have their listings on the National Stock Exchange of India since 2014-2015.
South Korea: 13 ETF New Listings
- Korean ETF providers listed 13 ETFs on the Korea Exchange. These included 9 thematic ETFs, 1 dividend ETF, and 3 active ETFs. Five of the thematic ETFs track the KRX Climate Change Solutions Index.
- Including the above listings, the total number of ETFs in Korea stood at 520 at month end.
Taiwan: 1 New ETF Listing; 3 Delistings
- Fubon Asset Management listed 1 thematic ETF on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
- 3 bond ETFs were delisted from the Taipei Exchange. Two ETFs were managed by First Securities Investment Trust.
- Including the above listings and delisting, the total number of ETFs in Taiwan stands at 217, of which 92 are bond ETFs.
